Alt text for images

Hi there, I am creating booklets to be exported as PDFs and used as online story guides. I want to add alt text to the images. I have clicked on Slice Options and typed in text in the Alt field. Do I need to fill in the other fields as well? How will I know if the alt text has worked?  Thank you.

Use InDesign for that.

You won't get Alt Text in Illustrator.

Slices themselves have nothing whatsoever in common with PDF. They don't even live on the same planet.

Slices is a web technology from the nineties.

That's not always the case with advances DC editing - those 90s splice loading tricks you speak of do creep in pdf  but in a different way. When an imported Adobe pdf is imported and it is rendered from a scan to an editable document that contains both images and text regardless of the origin it will often creates  slices where the OCR or rendering software doesn't recognize or know how to correctly separate a cluster of image with text that are tight and might have transparent overlap. When this is going on it does create slices - however the slices can be tagged as is or alternatly grouped then dissected in photoshop to create the "live area boundaries you want. This is typically happens when a multi page image heavy pdf is opened /  cracked or distilled pdf to

images from a pdf  is being edited by a 3rd party or an owner who doesn't have access to original

file source.  It will do the same were

to take a photo from a google search amd print it. At 1200 dpi 24X36 paper for a digital or oversized inkjet print. Once the file

is edited in photoshop if its imported as an image you will notice random shape splices. To avoids the splices it will auto see image and import it a file

InDesign has Conditional text, which is useful for documents with multiple of languages or versions. You can produce a somewhat similar result in Illustrator by using layers. Add the image text on separate layers and save as a PDF using the Illustrator default settings, this will include all layers from Illustrator, visible or not. In Acrobat or Reader, you can turn the layer visibility on or off as desired. Note, not all PDF viewers respect PDF layers.
