This has NEVER worked for me in any version of Illustrator. Now with v24.

Quick example creating a life buoy - I draw the red inflated circle, then add and style one of the four white straps that go around it. Now I want to rotate and duplicate it 3 more times using the center of the circle, obviously.

  1. Click on the circle, then enable Attributes > Show Center.
  2. Click on the Rotate tool.
  3. Select the single white strap element.
  4. Start 'searching' near the center of the circle for the center point that has now disappeared.
  5. ??? - start wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Smart Guides will give you the tool tip "Center" and Outline will show where to look for it.

But in Preview objects show their center point only when selected.

Smart Guides? Or work in Outline Preview to see the center mark?

Smart guides, yes.

Outline to see center mark, yes.

99% of the time I have smart guides enabled. But my issue with using outline is that snap doesn't work - while I can see the center mark, I'm still zooming in 1000% to make sure I'm on point.

So confirming, Show Center is only active while in outline view?
