Blank Message Box upon opening

Ever since upgrading to Illustrator 2020 (currently on 24.0.3 for Mac), every time I open an existing file I get a message box filling the page. Unfortunately it's blank. It doesn't do anything, and closes when I insist that it closes, so it's well behaved. But it's annoying, especially as I suspect it's trying to tell me something.

I use two different Macbook Pros, on two networks, and it happens on both of them. Only in Illustrator, and only when I open a file, not when I create one. Any ideas what it's trying to tell me?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd recommend trying to reset the preferences on the Illustrator once. Please follow instruction on

https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html#setting_illustrator_preferences to do that.

*Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to.
Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Ashutosh

Yep, thanks for that. Resetting the Preferences fixed it. I should have thought of that, regularly trashing the preferences file was common throughout the '90s for pretty much all applications. Guess I've been lulled into a false sense of security by modern apps.

What mac OS version are you on? Turn off dark mode is problematic. Looks like you have on by your menu bar.

Try Command E to toggle off GPU preview.

I think you need to reset your preferences. Hold CTR+ALT+Shift or CMD+Option+Shift right when you start up the application.
