Blend Make grayed out Illustrator

Hi, 

Im hoping someone can help. Im following a tutorial and I will attatch an image of what the final product will look like, but when i go to object, blend, make, i am unable to select make. I was wondering if anyone could help?

You can either just create it differently or (depending on your version) convert it.

If it doesn't matter to you to create a new text:

- just click with the text tool on an empty place on the artboard will create the text you need: a point text.

 

Then enter your letters.

You need a couple of letters for the artwork. So just click again to make the next one.
