Blend Make grayed out Illustrator

Hi, 

Im hoping someone can help. Im following a tutorial and I will attatch an image of what the final product will look like, but when i go to object, blend, make, i am unable to select make. I was wondering if anyone could help?

Your text is area text. But needs to be point text

You can either just create it differently or (depending on your version) convert it.

Im afraid your ging to have to excuse me, Im new to illistrator and have no idea where to start.  Ive had a look on the link, thank you for sending, and im as confused as ever

If it doesn't matter to you to create a new text:

- just click with the text tool on an empty place on the artboard will create the text you need: a point text.

Then enter your letters.

You need a couple of letters for the artwork. So just click again to make the next one.
