The toggle for the Bounding Box is Cmd(Ctrl)-Shift-B. This turns the BB off or on.

This is normal behaviour if you are actually using the Direct Selection tool.

In this case you can hold down the Cmd key (after direct selecting) to temporarily enable the bounding box.

This would not work with a direct selection tool.

Running into this issue with Illustrator 2021. Basic vector objects I used to get the bounding box where I can easily scale it. Now it's no bounding box. I even have Bounding Box to Show in View.

I now have to open the same file in Illustrator 2019 just so I can get the bounding box back on my vector objects. What gives?

Needed an enema. Quit Illustrator 2021, re-opened the file. Now I get the bounding box back.
