Exactly what has happened?

And which version and system are you using on which hardware?

The preferences file is read on each start and written every time you quit. It's Illustrator's most used file. Just some detail going wrong in your system or your hardware and poof. So having to rebuild it from time to time seems not too far fetched.

"Does Adode reinburst money lost dealing with their . . . [software]?"

No. No company does that.

"Can adobe be sued for lost work?"

You can sue anyone for anything. To prevail, however, you'll have to prove:

  • Damages were incurred
  • The $ amount of those damages
  • Adobe's negligence was the direct cause

It won't be easy or cheap.

Maybe if you post a specific question about the problem(s) you've had, someone here can help.

Either way, good luck.
