can I apply anti-aliasing to an Illustrator drawing?

Request from colleague – can she have a new version of an existing icon? yes, but she's sent me a .png with some subtle anti-aliasing on the edges of a rectangle. I feel more comfortable using Illustrator to create the new elements she requires, but then the rectangle is unforgivingly crisp. None of this is my domain, but I'm wondering if there's a recommended technique or approach that would 'soften' an Illustrator drawing. I have PhotoShop as well as Illustrator, if that helps … but I'm not an artist ;-}

Hah! posted too soon. I've now checked by opening the .png in PhotoShop, and the export from Illustrator has already applied the anti-alising. Problem solved.
