I can no longer export from Illustrator as TIFF or PSD, and I can no longer place a JPEG, TIFF, or PSD into Illustrator files. Never had this problem before in 20+ years. I just get an error message saying it's "in an unknown format and cannot be opened." I've treied rebooting Illustrator and the computer to no avail. Any ideas?

I got it to work. I uninstalled Illustrator, rebooted, and reinstalled. Thanks for the help.

Today, right after I discovered rebooting Illustrator didn't work.

Canyou try if resetting the preferences works?

You can rename the folder (this is reversible)

These files work in other apps? It's not a system issue?

Did you install something? Some system extension? Another app?

Are those particularly large files? Or some other special thing around them?

Do other files work: PNG, GIF?

I reset the preferences, as you suggested. It didn't solve the problem, but I got a new error message that may explain some things:

As for your other questions: Yes, the files open in Photoshop and Indesign just fine. They aren't large. I don't recall adding anything new. PNGs and other formats I've tried work fine.

So that looks like some more serious issue.

You can try if it works in a new user account on your computer.

Or simply uninstall, run the Cleaner tool and reinstall.
