Can't open newer dwg versions

Hello everybody,

I've just noticed after troubleshooting for two hours, that, for some reason, illustrator can't open any dwg file version 2013 and up. 2013/14/15/16/17/18/19 versions all produce the error "unknown file format". The same vwx file exported to dwg 2010/11/12 opens perfectly fine in illustrator.
Does anybody know why that's the way it is? Is it a bug or a feature?

Illustrator is not "opening" them at all. It is importing them. That is a huge difference. DWG is not a native file format, so you can expect it to be some versions behind.

Yeah I know that technically the process is called "importing", but in illustrator, the function is called "open", that's why I used that word. Anyway, I can understand being 'some' versions behind, but it seems strange to me that they're 7-8 years behind
