Can't turn Ilustrator File into a PDF no matter what I do

Hi!

I have been trying to save 2 artboards as a PDF. No matter what I do, it just saves it as a pdf.ai.

When I tried saving it as another ai. file with adding exporting as a PDF the file is too large. Even when I compress it it's still too large to send in an email.

Help!!!!
