hi. We have downloaded a stock image and want to put text over the image but it will not print over the stock image, but prints under. We are doing over print. Any idea what we are doing?

This seems more like a question about the app you are using to combine text and image. What Adobe app (or other app) are you using to do the work?

So, what do you mean by "prints under"?

I assumed you meant "further down the page".

But this seems to be about overprinting.

What EXACTLY do you see? No text on separations? Text on separations, but knocking out white on some plates? Text on all separations? Text on black and original image on other separations? Something else.

Please be detailed.

Thank you for your reply! We are very new to this. Being as detailed as
possible. Here goes nothing.

I have a stock image of a cross. I am applying an underbase to the
cross. The underbase is a light gray spot color. The cross is a black spot
color.

I then added text, added an underbase to the text using the same light
gray spot color as the underbase of the cross. I applied the black spot
color on the cross. I then moved the text on top of the cross.

In separations preview I have just my two spot colors. However, when I
print my separations the text prints behind the cross. What I need is two
film prints. An underbase print (light gray spot color) of the complete
image with text on top of cross and the i need a second film to print with
just my text.

The underbase is going to be a white ink and the i am going put down the
text in black ink.

I hope this makes sense....it does in my head but again...very new to
illustrator.
