I have typed a text, on a new layer, and I'm trying to turn it into a compound path, but it keeps sayign:

"Can't make a compound path.  All objects in a compound path must be paths, and they cannot be brushed or part of an object'.

I have tried several files, and even those that worked fine yesteray, say the above today. What's happening!?

Your help is much appreciated.

A text object can be made into a compound shape, but not into a compound path. Use the pathfinder panel's menu to do that. The alternative would be to outline the text. Then it can be a compound path.
