I can't seem to find a way to disable the filling of open paths in Illustrator 2021. Is there a way to do this?

Set up the default graphic style in a way that it doesn't apply a fill.

Monika's suggestion is correct, change the default graphic style.

To have it as the default for new documents, create a new document preset with that style.

Let me move this to the Illustrator forum for you, which is the appropriate forum for your question.

If you mean that the fill connects the open ends of a path, that's the way it works.

If you don't want a fill, just give it a fill of none.

Hi Ton. Thanks for the reply. That IS what I meant. It just seemed like something that should be optional since every other piece of software I've ever used (in the last 35 years) either does not fill open paths, or optionally does so. This can be especially important if you're designing for a platform that does not permit open paths. Filling open paths by default can make it very difficult to notice this as you are drawing.

Oh well. Thanks again.
