Default layer color settings

So I noticed a few days ago that my default layer color has somehow changed to black. It was always blue before (as it has been any time I've used illustrator on any computer), and was blue up until I opened a file the other day and it opened and I clicked on an object and saw that the highlighted box around it was now black and not blue. I know that I can go into the default layer settings and change the color, but it only changes it for that file and not throughout the settings so that it is preset for any time I open illustrator as a program. I wondered if anyone had experienced it just changing settings like that or if anyone knows how to change it in a preset so that I dont have to manually change the color in every file I open.
