Docked toolbar panels won't expand (macOS)

Moving toolbar panels to the edge of the screen to dock (anchor) them will prevent the panels from expanding when I click on them. Is this a known bug? (Adobe Illustrator 25.2.1, macOS Big Sur 11.2.3, MacBook Air M1)

I seem to remember this being an issue in the past.

Looks like switching on Application Frame solves this issue.

Did you find a solution?
If not, wht about your GPU Driver? You may need to update it.

I wouldn't call it a solution rather a workaround: I have enabled Application Frame in the Window menu and the docked toolbar panels work fine now. Not ideal but will see if I can live with this "hack" in the long term; really not a fan of the application frame aesthetic.

For as long as I can remember this has been an issue with Illustrator by the way, I was merely hoping this would be fixed by now.

Also, no GPU drivers should be required as this is a MacBook Air M1 running the latest version of macOS. Are there third-party drivers out there that solve this specific issue? I have doubts.
