Dots showing up in stroked text

Lately if I add a stroke to text using the Appearance panel (I set the stroke to be below the file) and then set a round cap and round corner join, I get these dots in my text. See attached.

There's no tab leader set and it's not from Show Hidden Characters. It actually prints like this and shows up in customer proofs.

This has happened in more than one file and I've tried multiple fonts that previously had no problem. I can't find a way to get rid of it unless I convert the text to outlines.

I'm in version 25.3.1, on a Mac. Very frustrating, has this happened to anyone else?

It is (was) a bug in one of the recent versions of Illustrator.

As far as I can see it has been fixed in the most recent version. Can you update and see if the issue is still there?

Indeed, it was a bug. It also only happened with TrueType fonts. Fixed now in 25.4.

If there's some reason you can't update right away, the easiest fix now is to merely turn off the Butt-end round caps. Your text shouldn't need it anyway for the look you want.
