Dropping PNG into illustrator, and it comes out grey noise

I purchased a piece of art, as I often do, and dragged the PNG into my illustrator file.  Normally I do this, I embed the file, and it looks fine.  This time, however, I the art is grey noise.  Anyone have any tips?

What is the color profile and bitdepth of the file?

What happens if you resave the file in Photoshop?

Undoubtedly irrelevant, but if you have switched to GPU Preview (lately) you may try Ctrl/Cmd+E to get (back) to CPU.

I have the same issue at time. Works if you change the png from 16bit to 8bit. Although, I have other pngs that are 16bit and work fine.
