Edit image- Need help

Hello everyone.

First off, I would like to tell you guys that I am a complete newbie. I am not a designer and hence have very limited knowledge. So my apologies if I am not using the technical jargon.

I would like to edit an image in my product label. The designer used two stock images- one is the background and the other is an image of a spoon with salt grains.

I would like to remove some grains (circled in the attached image) . Is that something I can do using Illustrator?  Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Probably best done in Photoshop.
