Editing a vector images colors in ai

There is a vector image that I am having difficulty editing in ai.

nothing is grouped and layers are so many that I can't figure what I'm doing wrong.

I don't think that this description is enough for people to figure out what you are intending to do.

Where does that vector image come from? Could you post screenshots of what you see/intend to do?

Apart from the advice given by Abambo, please use the Insert Photos button at the top of the Reply box), please also tell how/what you are trying to edit (in some cases that may even be enough).
