Editing datas of a graph change aspect of the dots

Hi, 

I have a line graph with custom round dots. When I edit datas, the graph returns to its original form with square dots. Is it possible to edit datas and keep my custom settings? Thank you.

This is possible sometimes and not. It happens randomly. The graph function is old.

As @Monika Gause stated, this feature is long in the tooth without any updates for a long time.
