Error when opening illustrator file

I am having this issue when opening many illustator files already created (photo attached)

Not sure what to do as the file image in my documents shows the original file drawing i made so therefore it seems it hasnt been deleted. 

If anyone has an idea that would be great!

The preview in the file is made based on the PDF embedded in your AI file.

Youare lucky: the image is still embedded in that PDF. But youwill need toextract it.
