Export Illustrator file to Photoshop with layers

Hi

I need to export a file from Illustrator to Photoshop with all the layers.

When I go to File > Export > Export as > and select the file to be exported as a Photoshop (*.PSD), I get an error message saying "Photoshop file could not be saved." Can anyone please help me?

I'm using Adobe Illustrator 2020 on a Windows 10.

Any help will be much appreciated 🙂

How large is the file and where are you trying to save it?

My Illustrator file is 18.989 KB and I am just trying to export it as a .psd to a normal folder on my computer (somewhere on the C drive) where I have also saved the Illustrator file

Does it work with other files?

When was your last computer restart?

I am trying to export it with a high resolution (300 dpi).

I have managed to export another (and much smaller: 5.792 KB) file. When I then open it in my Photoshop Elements, it opens - after a long time - but when I then try to do anything I get an error message saying "This is not a valid Portable Document File (PDF) document. It cannot be opened."

I have had my computer turned on and off between several attempts.

My co-students are having the same problems with some of their files, so it's not just me...

300 ppi will make a large document.

How are the AI file dimensions (not the filesize)?

It's an A0 (841 mm x 1189 mm).

Do you think it's simply too big a file?

Yes, it looks like so.

Can you try and export it at 72 ppi for a test?

I just tried a 72 ppi export. It didn't work either...

Then you maybe need some more troubleshooting.

Are there any non-ASCII-characters in the filename?

When was the last time you restarted the computer?

Have you already tried resetting the preferences?

There are no non-ASCII-characters in the filename.

I just restarted my computer and reset the preferences - it didn't help (again I tried a 72 ppi export).
