Feature request: Advanced Artboard renaming tool

Renaming Artboards is a very annoying thing to do and it would be so much less stressful if Adobe could make a way to rename multiple Artboards at once or automatically.

I haven't found any other way to do this than to download a plugin, I don't like plugins and I believe this would be very beneficiary for many Illustrator users.

The thing is Artboard names are a crucial way to streamline project with many different sizes or colours. And to keep your folders organized.

For example, macOS has a reasonably good renaming tool in finder.

I'm sorry if such a feature already exists in Illustrator and I would love to hear how it works and where to find it.

Yes, there is currently no out-of-box function.

But there are already dozens of renaming scripts here on the forum - how would you like to rename? From what … to?

Yes i know there are many scripts out there. But i just think this is a feature almost everyone will use so why not improve the way naming works at the moment

Honestly? Personally, I never had to rename an artboard - the only exceptions were tests with newly created scripts (for others).

Better ask what I personally rarely do with Illustrator: I rarely work with artboards.

But you haven't answered my question yet.

I almost always work with artboards. This is because often i need multiple
languages or assets at different sizes like post for facebook, instagram
and linkedin.

To answer your question:
I would like to be able to select multiple artboards and replace or add
text infront and behind. I would also like to be able to change the name of
an artboard by clicking on the artboard name instead of in the preferences
window. Basically only having to click once on the name, type and hit enter
instead of the multiple clicks it takes now.

It shouldn't be too difficult to recreate an older script for such requirements. Here's a good basis for that:

In addition, you can change the name of the artboards in the Artboard Panel at any time - or the name of the active artboard in the Control Bar while the Artboard Tool is active.

Your best option if you don't want to use a script is to post a feature request or vote for an existing one on Uservoice.
