Guides on it own layer

I have read the helpx document about guides in detail. The document recommends moving guides to a separate layer.

  • Are there any disadvantages to guides being on their own layer.
  • Will I still be able to snap to guides if they are on a different layer
  • It also indicates that guides are essentially placed on the canvas and not an artboard by stating "to restrict guides to an artboard, select the artboard tool and drag them on to the artboard."

Thank you,

Jim

Guides on its own layer will keep snapping (smart guides on) and have the additional advantage that the layer can be set to outline preview (Cmd or Ctrl click the eye icon on the layer). That means they can be still visible when moved. No need to disable the Realtime options or GPU preview.

Hello Again Ton, should I place the guides layer at the top or the bottom on the layers panel? Does it make a difference.

Thanks again, Jim
