Help with duplicating using alt

  1. I am new to illustrator. Wanted to know if objects duplicated using alt (or any method, ctrl +c) are created to the front or back of original object by default. Also, is there a way to change this?

You can change it by clicking the buttons at the bottom of the tool paneL. Draw in front or draw in back. Default is draw in front.
