How do I add a brush stroke to a clipping mask?

I'm not able to add a brush stroke to aclipping mask, but it works with a normal stroke. Does anyone know how I can get this to work? Please take a look at the screenshots below.

Clipping mask with a center aligned stroke.

When I change the stroke to a brush stroke, it disappears. If I go back to the normal stroke and try a different stroke alignment, it also disappears.

Why would Adobe create a "Draw Inside" function that also removes any brush strokes?

You need to copy the clipping path and then paste in front. It just doesn't work with a mask.

Shame. I hope they add this feature in the future. It's very useful!

Object >> Path >>  Outline object, then pathfinder unite, and use that as your mask

Or transparency palette >> make mask. Notice the are 2 square icons, so you can either enter mask editing mode, or edit the art mode and the orange line around the icon tells you which mode you are in.

Not sure if I'm following you. Will this make it possible to add a brush stroke to the mask?
