go to File->File Info... go to the Raw Data section and find it there with your own eyes or by using the search box.

On Mac when opening the file, click Replace and you can copy the name from the window title.

I don't know if it works on Windows.

Not a logical answer. I should be able to copy the file name from the link panel.

I've been using Illustrator since 1996 and have requested this feature year after year. It's absolutely unnacceptable that this simple task, among hundreds of others, is impossible to accomplish after decades of frustration.

In Illustrator 26.1 the answer marked here as Correct is… incorrect.

In Link File Info > Raw Data the file name is not part of the copyable data. It is, however, part of the window title, which is… not copyable.

This is inadequate just about usable when the file name is short, or uses actual words, and can be typed readily by a human.

It is entirely useless when the file name is a long hash.

Please do better, Adobe.

Adobe has fixed part of this issue, at least in MACs. When opening the file in Illustrator, it notifies you with the "Could not find the linked file..." message.

2. Click replace,

3. On the top of the window where it says Please Locate "File Name," Highlight and copy the file name.

You still can't copy the missing file's name in the links panel.

4. Paste the name in the Finders search bar
