How to know the area of ink

Hi, hope you can help me on this topic.

I want to know the total area of a text and/or shape of a certain selection. For example, having a rectangle and placing a text inside. Just want to know the sq cm of the text and/or shape vs the total area of the rectangle. 

I've found script GetShapeArea.jsx which is fine will simple shapes but not with text. I've tried the function "pathfinder" to combine the rectangle and the text without success.  

Is there any other script/solution for this?
