how to remove a distressed look from a font.

Is there a way i can remove the distressed look of this fond in illustrator?

If the font is still vector and not an image, you may look at the Transparency panel after selecting it.

Maybe a mask can be released.

I'm new to illustrator. Not sure what releasing a mask is?  The font was downloaded from the internet. The distressed look was already embedded in font. I didn't add it myself.

I am afraid you will have to use another font; you may use a black one and recolour it.
