Huge file size variation between 'Export for Screens...' and 'Save for Web (Legacy)...'

Hi

So here's an example of the issue:

When I export my artboard via 'Export for Screens...', the file size is 661 KB - Settings are Art Optimized, JPG 100, x1, ICC Profile included.

Whereas, when I export using 'Save for Web (Legacy)...', the size is 15 KB - Settings are Max quality (100%), Art Optimized, ICC Profile included.

The colour of the square box in the examples I've attached seems to be lighter for the 'Export for Screens...' version too.

Could, someone explain to me why all of this is happening and if it's possible to make both export options produce the same quality/size document?

If you convert from CMYK to RGB in File > Document Color Mode it will change.

But it is better to start with an RGB document instead of converting later.

Your Export for Screens image is a CMYK jpeg.

Unfortunately you cannot change that to RGB on export.

Will this change if I change the settings in doc setup?

Maybe this helps, but colors will be cause much problems this way! If you export a CMYK file with "Export for Web (legacy)" you do not have to change CMYK mode, get a small file size and automatic conversion to RGB will be quite close to the original image!
