Recently, i've started to turn my sketches digital, by scanning them and putting them on illustrator. I use the image trace tool, expand and then I simply fill colour in the seperated sections. This process is working out well, but it becomes tedious and I want to make my art more interesting and detailed once I have it in illustrator. Maybe I could use the paintbrush tool to add shadows and stuff like that, but I simply don't know how, and I don't know how to get my original black and white sketch to go over the colour and added detail. I am really bad when it comes to computers! Thanks.

I think it is all about exploring a range of techniques and Tool that Illustrator has, then natuarally developing techniques that work best for you.
This will all come in time, I would recommened exploring the Pen Tool, Pencil Tool, Working with Gradient and so on.
