illustrator 2021 crashing macos Catalina

I have been using illustrator for years with no issue but i tried to open an ai file a few weeks ago and illustrator showed the startup screen before instantly crashing. I brushed it off, updated the app but it kept happening over the next few weeks. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and i am definitely running the right software because it was working fine until a few weeks ago. 

 

I can create a new document but if i try to do anything other than basic text stuff it crashes. I have work i need to do and i can't use the software for more than 2 minutes at a time without it crashing, and i can't open any of my files in illustrator. 

 

Please help this is driving me crazy :,)

i forgot to add that i get the "sorry, an error has occured" every time it crashes as well and if i send an error report it comes back with "Adobe could not find any solutions or workarounds for the recent error in Adobe Illustrator 2021."

Have you already tried resetting the preferences?

Where do you save your files?

Is a printer installed?

Do you have any third party plugins?
