Illustrator 2021 Saved as PDF Has White Background

The Illustrator file has boxes with no fill, but when saved as a PDF and brought into InDesign, the entire file has a white background. How do I make it transparent? This was not an issue in previous versions of Illustrator.

When importing Illustrator, turn on the Import options in InDesign. There you can turn off the white background
