Illustrator 25 Cut and paste text into file name does not work

Using Illustrator 25.2.1 on Mac OS Big Sur. I cannot copy plain text from inside Illustrator  and paste that text into a file save window as my file name. If I try the maneuver in Apple's Text Edit program it works fine. This should be a basic functionality, since naming my Illustrations with plain text and then saving out different verions should be as simple as copying a plain text into the filename SaveAs dialog box.
