I noticed that my files I was importing into illustrator were being modified upon import. I've attached a screenshot of the same image in AI and in windows photo viewer (which is identical to the appearance in ImageJ). I saved the imported image as an 8bit tiff before inporting; the issue does not affect the same file saved as a JPG then imported.

The AI version is brighter causing a distinct loss of sharp edges and corners. Features in the image look puffier. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Check your Color Settings in your Adobe apps (including Bridge). There's a current bug affecting these settings across the suite. This might be causing your issue.
