Illustrator c24.1.2 not able to save documents on Windows 10

Illustrator won't save any new files or edits to already saved files. It doesn't even give me an error message, I save it, and it just doesn't save the edits or new files. I tried unistalling and restalling illustrator, saving as a PDF and exporting as a JPEG, but nothing new saves. Thank you for any advice you fabulous people have! 🙂

Is it Windows or Mac? Which system? Which version of Illustrator? Did you try trashing Preferences?

Take a look at this bug. It could be the culprit. https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/38961718-ai-2020-v-24-u...

Thank you for the ideas! It is the latest version of Illustrator (24.1.2). I have a Windows 10. I  just reset my preferences and it didn't work. I clicked the link, but I am not sure how to use the info provided... 😞

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Jeff has suggested you correctly. Please follow the instructions given below:

If you do not use custom Adobe PDF presets/joboptions or not heard of it then follow the below steps
1. Navigate to user presets folder
Win: appdata\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings
2. Rename the folder to “Settings old” and create a new empty folder “Settings” in the same place
3. Launch Illustrator and check if you can save the document

If you use custom Adobe PDF presets then follow below steps
1. Go to Edit > Adobe PDF Presets
2. Check PDF compatibility of PDF presets that are not default
3. Make a note of presets that use PDF compatibility version 1.3
4. Quit Illustrator
5. Navigate to user presets folder
Win: appdata\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings
6. Move the presets identified in step 3 out of this folder
7. Launch Illustrator and check if you can save the document

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Ashutosh

Hi,

Thank you but I don't know how to get to or what "user presets folder" is, could you explain how to get there?

Thank you!

You can go to the location through the path: C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe

Hope it helps. Thanks!
