Illustrator CC 2017 - Won't open new document

I am currently running Illustrator CC 2017 on my brand new laptop which I purchased for when I am away from my desktop. However I am not seeing the new 'Start' screen (shows up on other computer). My main problem is not being able to open a new document, the dialog box to enter document size etc. does not show up, nothing does. The program does not crash nor is there an error warning, it just won't open. I can double click on an existing document and it opens and runs perfectly. Any suggestions?

Not really a solution, but a possible workaround.

Preferences > General > check " Use legacy "File New" interface"

Thanks for that! Worked a charm, will do the trick for now. Would be good to get it working properly at some point, hopefully.

hi. for Windows only. not sure whether this will work under Illustrator but you could set the Use legacy "File New" interface" back to off. Restart your Illustrator. on your keyboard hit "Ctrl-Break". then try to open a new document . does it work now?
