After Adobe Illustrator started to act weird, I decided on closing it and but the program froze in the background and supposedly been 'suspended' I closed it via task manager. After re-opening the .ai file, a message displaying 'Illustrator could only partially read this file...' after opening it all the data on the artboard had been wiped clean off, but dragging that .ai file onto a new .ai file show only the asset that was in the artboard of the 'corrupted' .ai file, It was also one piece (as if it all the assets had been fused together).
