Illustrator files opening in Chrome???

I have Illustrator version 25.21 and work on a Windows Surfacebook 2. For some reason after I updated Illustrator, all my Illustrator files on my desktop now have a Google Chrome thumbnail icon. When I click to open the ai file, Chrome opens up and it downloads the file. The only way to open it in Illustrator is to right click, Open with, Adobe Illustrator. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Can you not right click a file > Open with > Choose another app, then select illustrator and also check always use this app to open .ai files > click ok

You'll need to reset the default app associated with .ai files in Windows.

how about with mac? my "open with" illustrator capabilities has disappeared in google drive

Select an AI file and open the Info Window in Finder. There you can set the app to open the file with and then check to use this for all such files.
