Illustrator running CPU at 300%+

I am running Illustrator 2020 on a 2015 Macbook Pro. Lately whenever I use the program to create or edit even simple vector graphics, Illustrator's CPU usage goes through the roof and the computer's fans start running at full speed. This did not happen before, even earlier this year. Has anything changed with the later versions of Illustrator 2020? I have tried deleting preferences and also reinstalling Illustrator altogether, but so far no luck. Please help if you have a suggestion. Thanks!

Try restarting your mac and Update Ai to the most recent version
