We get files that were created on the Windows Platform and when we open them on the Mac Platform, a window pops up with the message "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [xlfd]". We click Ok and the file seems intact and together.
This began after upgrading to Adobe Illustrator CC 2018.
Anyone else experiencing this? Is this a bug?

since the issue is not of generic nature it will be difficult for the community to suggest. I would suggest you contact support. they can help you get a resolution.

dtomas - Are you facing the issue with every file or there are some specific files.
If possible can you share some of the files that are opening on Windows and throwing error on MAC. This will help us in isolating the issue. Otherwise, we can also have a connect session to look at the issue.
Thanks,
Mohit

The issue happens all the time for files coming from the PC platform. All others are fine. Where do you want me to upload the file to?

You can share the file over creative cloud, google drive, drop box or any other means that is fine with you.

I am getting the same issue. All of the files created on the PC are doing this. This happened on the 2016 or 2017 I am sure of it. Adobe needs to fix again.

The explanation is here and has to do with fonts and how Unix handles them.
XLFD = X Logical Font Description.
https://books.google.gr/books?id=qrElYgVLDwYC&pg=PA222&lpg=PA222&dq=operation+cannot+complete+xlfd+e...
And although the description might be wrong or unrecognizable, most of the times it;s not a real problem and has no other impact on the document.

"Solution for Adobe Illustrator. Regarding the problem...
"The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. (Cant)"
The problem is caused by some files in the directories.
"c: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ Adobe \ UXP \"
In Windows 10 (X64)
Rename to "c: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ Adobe \ 00UXP \"
(In this way they are not erased and you can return to them, for if other programs fail)
It contains the routines for the start screen and new documents of the different Abobe programs.

luck!!! 😉 :)"
Changing UXP to 00UXP worked like a charm!! This actually works for me!!!
