Illustrator update cancelled keyboard shortcut workflow

So I have been using a methodology of copying objects sequentially by holding down CNTRL + ALT, then click-holding the desired object, then holding down SHIFT to constrain movement, and moving the object to the desired postion, and repeating this exact object duplication by CNTRL + D. The recent update makes this not work- when I try holding down Shift after selecting the object to constrain movement direction, it applies a different behavior. Does anyone know why this is? Or how I can regain my shortcut? This is often more simple and faster than using the blend tool.

Thanks!
