Is there a way to retrieve illustrator when crashed while working?
I am using Adobe Premiere Pro v14.3.0 & MacOS Catalina v10.15.5?

Because I save my file and then went to the washroom but when I came back, I saw a crash report popped up. The tmp that was there wasn't the updated or even close enough to the last few hours that I did on the file.

Can anyone help? I would really appreciate since, I am almost done with the work and this happened. I don't know what to do.

A crash while saving a file is the worst scenario.

Do you have something like Time Machine running?

Do you make backups?

Does the AI file still open in Acrobat?

If so, you can place it in a new Illustrator file and then you might be able to rescue at least some of the content. It won't be easily editable though.

No. I coudn't find any trace of it. Through saved data, the folder where I originally save my ai files. And on the recent file, there the latest is not my updated file.

I already redo the updates, so it's fine. But in the future that this happens again, maybe you could recommend something so I could try.

Thank you so much for your help.

For recovering documents after a crash, see here and here,

https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/whats-new.html#recovery
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/crash-file-data-recovery.html

and/or use the free Autosaviour (CS5/CS6/CC & Vista/7/8 or 10.7+):

http://www.astutegraphics.com/software/autosaviourfree/

For Mac users, the app "Ai Auto Save" can be bought here:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ai-auto-save/id877602617?ls=1&mt=12

Or you can create a Double Action yourself as described here:

I think you can safely forget about AI Autosave. The last time it's been updated was 2017. It likely won't be compatible with current OS or Illustrator versions.

"maybe you could recommend something so I could try. "

There are a lot of issues reported with Catalina's sleep mode on the Apple forums.

Can you check if automatic GPU switching or GPU detection is turned on in the system preferences and can you turn it off?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this trouble. Is it crashing everytime you leave your system for few minutes (system goes to Sleep mode)?

This has been reported by a few other users as well. We tried but unfortunately we are not able to reproduce this issue. I would request that if you could upvote this issue here (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/illustrator-24-2-crashing-on-sleep-mode-on-mac-catalina/m...) and share the required information in comments. This way you'll keep getting all the updates related to this issue.

Regards,

Srishti
