Is there a way to use pathfinder to separate two shapes made from one overlapping path?

First of all I apologise if this question has already been answered.

I have this shape. I would like to remove the tail without having to adjust anchor points and bezels so that I can preserve curves perfectly. Is there a way to use pathfinder or some other tool to achieve this or will I have to adjust the anchor points?

The shape builder tool is your friend in this situation, use option in Mac or Alt in Windows to remove the unwanted portion

Hi John,

Thanks for reaching out. We are glad you found the solution. In addition to Mario's response, I'd request checking out help article https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/creating-shapes-shape-builder-tool.html to know how Shape Builder tool works. Hope it helps.

Regards,

Ashutosh
