You could try and reset the preferences. Unfortunate during the last updates it was needed in order to make Illustrator work.

The process will destroy all settings. You can rename the folder in order to try if it helps at all. Procress is described in here. https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html

If it doesn't help, name the folder back.

Did you just update?

When updating, did you reset the preferences?

Hi

Illustrator always automatically updates itself and non of the settings usually change.

Is there anything within Preferences I should be checking?

My keyboard shortcuts are 'working' but the icon doesn't change, so if I was typing with the text tool and 'A' to direct select tool - it still shows the text icon on my working artboard vs the white arrow. So ridiculous as the text tool does not help me select a point. We, old-timers, use keyboard shortcuts ALL the time & depend on the icon to match. I shouldn't have to reset my preferences every time Adobe does an update. I just had to do that and am still working through my spelling dictionary. 😞

Thank you so much - resetting the Preferences has worked. All keyboard shortcuts are back.
