Map zoom : rescale or just create new artboard

Hello,

Sometimes I have to draw maps on AI, and sometimes I need to export zooms of these map.

I'm used to create a new AI file and rescale everything, but maybe could I just create a new artboard, adjust strokes and effects, and export in PDF ? (And the artboard size doesn't matter)

You can add nested artboards as needed and export each separately. Can you show a screen shot?
