Missing Adobe Fonts in Illustrator? This could be because of retired/removed fonts

Are you getting “Missing Fonts” error while opening an Illustrator file? One of the reasons could be due to the non-availability of the fonts used in the document.

This can happen in two scenarios -

  • Fonts installed in the computer are not available
  • Fonts from Adobe Fonts are not syncing

For Adobe Fonts, one of the reasons could be the removal of fonts used in the document from the Adobe font library. We are occasionally obligated to remove fonts from the font library due to non-availability of licensing & distribution or when the font family has major updates or if the foundry itself has requested to do so.

On 15th June, some fonts were removed from Adobe Fonts. If you are using any of these fonts from the Font Bureau and Carter & Cone, you may need to replace your font or get them directly from the foundries.

More information about these removed fonts removed can be found here:

I want to share my thoughts on this topic.

Removing fonts from Adobe Cloud carries a big risk for users.

Fonts used in the cloud do not cause problems when opened in a different user or Country.

If the font is not Active, there may be slips as a result of Espas problems as a result of using a font opened from a different source, and there may be missing characters.

When fonts are retired after a period of use, corporate identity can also cause additional unplanned budget problems for reuse in key packaging designs.

Although I understand what you are saying, the fonts offered by Adobe are administered by them and you do not own them, nor do you have any control over their availability. If you use an Adobe font for a corporate identity where it will be used for a long time, in many ways, and by many users, then you should purchase from a third party the appropriate usage rights. And then you will have the font software at your disposal.
