My Ai file lost

I saved my ai file several times. I restarted my computer and I opened the file and it was back at the beginning of the design. I had saved at least 3 times after the version I am able to open. The file is not showing up on my computer and I am confused as to where it went. Is there any way to recover this file or do I have to re-do the work already done?

Which version and system is it?

Did you just Save or did you "Save as"?

Where did you save the file?

For some people unchecking "Save in Background" in the preferences solved this kind of issue.
