need to edit my pdf in illustrator

help please! i have saved my work as a pdf - smallest file size- and now need to edit and i cant in illustrator- is there a way to undo this- i meant to save as ai too- help very appreciated!!

Did you close the file after saving as "Smalles file size"?

If so: no, you can't undo it.

Do you have Time Machine or any other backup running?

Did you save the file in Creative Cloud (no longer than 14 days ago)?
