Object > Compound Path Doesn't Exist (Illustrator 2021)

Hi, I'm trying to create a compound path using Object > Compound Path > Make.  BUT, my Object menu doesn't have Compound Path.  How can I do this function?

It is there, but grayed out in your menu.

Can you please show a screenshot of the selected object, the Layers Panel and the Appearance Panel?

That is how the Object menu appears when nothing is selected. There must be something selected for the Compound Path option to be available.
